The following is an experience shared by a friend who has been suffering from obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) for many years. I hope to bring you some enlightenment:
I have suffered from OCD for many years, especially the obsessional thoughts, and I can’t help thinking negative things. Recently I have basically recovered from the suffering after repeated practice.
For OCD patients like me, it is easy to get rid of it.
Here are some tips:
First, Obsessional Thoughts is just a bad habit instead of any incurable disease, so we don’t need to be afraid of it.
We have fixed a bad habit of thinking in the wrong way, which has brought you pain and distress. OCD can be treated as long as we get rid of this bad habit.
So how can we do?
It is useless to rely on reading a book or a theory even if you can understand it well. I have read many books on OCD, and I thought I understood it. However, the OCD has been repeated. Recently I have realized that we should walk the talk. It is simple to get rid of your bad habits through constant practice. However, most OCD patients just fix their eyes on the theory, and even take medicine, which is just nonsense.
So how do we practice? OCD is just a bad habit and thinking modefixed in human brain, and we are going to get rid of it through constant practice.
Take me as an example, when I’m doing things, various ideas pop up in my mind just as other people do. However, for OCD patients, they keep on thinking these ideas, and distress and pain then emerge, which deepens OCD, and then causes vicious circle.
So what we have to do is to get rid of this habit of thinking. When these ideas pop up in our mind, we need to get used to their existence instead of being anxious. Though it is inefficient to do things with these messy ideas in mind, we should keep on doing that. After a while we may suddenly realize that we almost forget what OCD is just now.
What if OCD comes back to our mind after a while?
We need to keep doing what I mentioned above. Just like what we do in the gym, practice makes perfect. With time went by, when good thinking habits are formed, OCD is already gone.
Therefore, it is easy to overcome OCD when you get rid of the bad habits and form good habits through constant practice.
